What Is Boys Of Fire Island?

Fire Island is a magical place, but it can be a bit daunting to figure out how to get out there and find a place to stay! 

There are a few hotels & guest houses that rent out beds and rooms by the night, and homes that rent for a share of the summer (quarter shares, half shares, whole summer shares). 

Before each summer starts, many homeowners on the island list their homes for rent via real estate agents, who split up the summer rental into quarters, half or full summer shares (a quarter share means you get 1 week per month during the season, a half share means you get two weeks a month, and a full share means the house is yours for the full season). As an example, in a quarter share situation, a 4 bedroom house will most probably have 8 friends going in on the house together, each paying for one bed (each bedroom usually fits two people via 1 or 2 beds).

During the course of the summer, it’s very well possible that someone who has paid for their summer share can’t make it out for one of their weeks. 

That’s where Boys of Fire Island comes in. Instead of letting the bed go empty, we provide a platform to help people find someone to take their spot, thus giving someone else a chance to enjoy a weekend on the island! We started this as a group on Facebook, and you can join today to get in on the action!
